The main theme of the 21st Conference is “European Solidarity Without Borders”.
We hope there will be a chance to find out what solidarity should mean to people with dementia and their carers as well as what it means to Alzheimer Europe members.
We expect the conference will become an opportunity to share experience in family and professional care, as well as to compare the work of associations, to learn from each other, to present examples of good practice in raising awareness, fundraising and in this way help us to plan our activities for the benefit of people with dementia.
There will also be a chance to learn about national Alzheimer's strategies. A great sucess of the approval by the European Parliament of the Declaration to make Alzheimer's disease a priority in health policies of the European Union states has led to national strategies in a few countries, but unfortunately not everywhere.
Perhaps good examples will give an impulse to those national associations, which have not been able yet to encourage their governments to implement such action plans and will show ways in which health ministries could be mobilised. We all are aware that without the active involvement of governments in the process of formulating national Alzheimer's strategies it will be very difficult to achieve success.
